The streets of Nairobi are set to come alive once again with the exhilarating energy of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon. Now in its 22nd edition, this iconic annual event will unfold on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the historic Uhuru Gardens, promising a day of athletic prowess, community spirit, and impactful philanthropy.
This year's marathon aims for ambitious goals: to raise a remarkable KSh175 million for charitable causes and to attract a record-breaking 30,000 participants. These targets underscore the event's growing significance not just as a premier sporting competition, but as a powerful platform for positive social change across Kenya.
A Legacy of Running and Giving Back
For over two decades, the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has cemented its place as one of the most anticipated events on Kenya’s sporting calendar. Its journey has seen over 300,000 runners cross the finish line, collectively contributing to an astounding KES 850 million raised since its inception. These funds have been channeled into life-changing programs throughout the country, embodying the marathon's deep commitment to community well-being.
In the previous 2024 edition, the marathon successfully generated KSh171 million, with a significant KSh43 million directly invested into the impactful Futuremakers initiative in Kenya.
Powering Futuremakers: Every Step Counts
At the heart of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon lies its profound social mission: the Futuremakers initiative. As Joyce Kibe, Standard Chartered Kenya & Africa Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing Head, explains, "What makes this event truly special is that every step taken contributes to real change through our Futuremakers initiative, which supports young people, women, and persons with disabilities in Kenya by equipping them with the skills and opportunities they need to build a better future." This initiative is dedicated to tackling inequality and promoting economic inclusion by focusing on education, employability, and entrepreneurship programs for disadvantaged youth, particularly young women and those with visual disabilities.
The funds raised through the marathon directly empower these vulnerable groups, providing them with essential skills, access to opportunities, and a pathway to self-reliance and a brighter future.
CEO Challenge: Encouraging corporate leadership in health and wellness.
Corporate Challenge: Fostering teamwork among organizations.
The competitive races are set to attract a formidable contingent of over 250 elite athletes from across the globe. The event's growing international acclaim is evident in its increasing draw of top talent; last year's edition saw 206 elite runners, a significant leap from 73 in 2023, solidifying the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon's reputation as a truly world-class athletic event.
Secure Your Spot!
Registration for the 22nd Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is now open at a fee of Ksh 2,500 and will continue until September 30. Participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spot in this highly anticipated event that promises not just a challenging run but also the profound satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause.
