When we think of big names in the music industry, Nigerian artist Wizkid is undoubtedly at the top of the list, and for good reason! Not only is he enchanting listeners with his writing, creativity and penmanship, but he's also been raking in some serious cash on Spotify. The "Superstar" singer has over $1 million in revenue and is holding the title of Africa's highest-earning artist on the Spotify platform
Wizkid has just made headlines by becoming the first African artist to surpass a staggering 8 billion streams on Spotify – yes, you read that right! This colossal figure includes both his lead and featured tracks. Notably, his smash hit “One Dance” with Canadian sensation Drake has become an astronomical success, boasting over 2 billion streams alone. This appealing track didn’t just top charts back in 2016; it also holds the Guinness World Record for being the first single to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify! Amazing, right?
Wizkid's impressive earnings can be attributed to his rich music catalog. Albums like "Made in Lagos" and smash singles such as "Superstar" and "Holla at Your Boy" have contributed to his worldwide appeal. It’s no shock that his following is increasing—his varied fusion of Afrobeats and R&B strikes a chord with audiences globally, drawing in fans from all over the world.
Not to forget about the prizes! Wizkid is a decorated artist with a Grammy Award under his belt, along with several wins at the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, Billboard Awards, and iHeartRadio Music Awards. He even holds the record as the most awarded artist in “The Headies” award history. This recognition truly speaks to his influence to fans at large.
In addition to his music catalogue is Wizkid's 2024 album titled "Morayo"—which means “I see joy” in Yoruba— that is sure to be a trendsetter. The project, which is a tribute to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023, has been described as his best work yet. Wizkid teased fans early last year, proclaiming on Twitter currently known as X, “Best album I ever made!!”
What a amazing time to be a supporter of Wizkid! If only we could snag a slice of that Spotify pie (lol). As he shatters records and resonates with souls through his tunes, it’s evident that this phenomenal artist isn’t just making ripples—he’s unleashing a tsunamis in the music scene. Cheers to countless more achievements and tracks that keep us grooving till dawn!
