Uasin Gishu County has been rocked by a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, as a police officer from Tembelio Police Post in Ainabkoi Sub-county has been apprehended following the alleged fatal shooting of his girlfriend and another man. The shocking event, suspected to be the culmination of a volatile love triangle, unfolded in the quiet hours of midnight, casting a somber shadow over the local community.
According to Mr. Benjamin Mwanthi, the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander, the incident occurred at Kokwet Bar, a local pub situated in the Jua Kali area of Turbo. The establishment is reportedly owned by the female victim, adding another layer of tragedy to the circumstances. Commander Mwanthi detailed the harrowing sequence of events, stating that the officer allegedly confronted his girlfriend, driven by suspicions of infidelity. As the situation rapidly escalated, another man reportedly attempted to intervene, aiming to defuse the brewing conflict. It was at this critical juncture that the officer allegedly opened fire, using his official firearm, instantly killing both individuals on the spot.
The swift and decisive response from law enforcement prevented further escalation. Fellow officers, alerted to the gunfire and the unfolding tragedy, quickly converged on the scene. They successfully apprehended and disarmed the suspect shortly after the shooting, ensuring he could not cause further harm. The officer is currently being held at a local police station in Eldoret, where he awaits the commencement of what is expected to be a thorough and meticulous investigation into the double homicide.
The bodies of the deceased victims have since been transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret, awaiting post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigative process.
