Mugithi singer Samidoh appeared before Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi at the Milimani Law Courts to shed light on the tragic death of his nephew, interior designer Jeff Mwathi. In a powerful statement, Samidoh told the inquest that he does not believe Mwathi took his own life and urged the court to determine the true cause of death. His testimony, which offered a personal and emotional perspective on the case, is a significant moment in the ongoing judicial inquiry.
Speaking on Monday, Samidoh told the court that he had known Mwathi since childhood and that, to his knowledge, the 23-year-old had no history of suicidal thoughts or attempts. He further stated that the circumstances surrounding Mwathi’s fall from a Kasarani apartment were inconsistent with a voluntary jump, a belief that is shared by a growing number of people following the high-profile investigation. Samidoh's emotional plea for the magistrate to establish what transpired on that fateful night resonated with many who have been following the case.
The singer described arriving at the scene on the morning of the incident and said he found a number of people present at the apartment. He told the inquest that DJ Lawrence Njuguna, known as DJ Fatxo, who has been described in media reports as a person of interest, had already left the premises with three women while Mwathi was not with them. Samidoh's testimony, therefore, provides a new layer of detail to the sequence of events that night, and it is expected to be a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.

Samidoh also denied any personal enmity with DJ Fatxo, saying the two hail from the same county and that there was no rivalry between them, a statement that seeks to quell any rumors of a personal vendetta. In his testimony, he suggested that Mwathi may have been pushed from a window, telling the court that physical signs at the scene did not fit a straightforward suicide scenario. He urged investigators and the court to probe the mechanics of the fall and to consider forensic findings in reaching a conclusion.
Jeff Mwathi died on February 22, 2023, after falling from the Redwood Apartments block in Roysambu, Kasarani, in Nairobi. The incident prompted a high-profile investigation and sparked public interest and repeated forensic examinations. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations later ordered a second autopsy, and homicide detectives said their enquiries pointed to signs of foul play rather than suicide. As the inquest continues, with DJ Fatxo expected to give his testimony, the family and the nation are waiting for the court to deliver a final verdict that will bring closure to a tragic and deeply painful story.
