In a recent tour of the United States, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a significant stop in Silicon Valley, immersing himself in the world of global tech giants, including Meta and Google. The visit, which Gachagua documented on his social media platforms on Saturday, was a blend of technological exploration and a subtle political message, capturing the attention of both tech enthusiasts and political observers in Kenya.
One of the most notable moments from his visit was a photo he shared of himself writing the phrase “Wantam” on the Facebook Wall at Meta's headquarters. The phrase, a popular rallying cry used by the opposition to signal their commitment to ousting President William Ruto in the 2027 elections, sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. This move, however, was met with a counter-movement from Ruto's supporters, who have long pushed for the "Tutam" phrase, signifying their support for a second term for the President. Gachagua's use of the phrase, therefore, injected a layer of political intrigue into his high-tech tour.

Gachagua's visit was a clear statement of his commitment to embracing groundbreaking ideas and innovations. He emphasized that the world is now a global tech hub and that Kenya must not be left behind. "I spent quality time at Google before taking a memorable ride in an AI-driven Jaguar limousine. My visit to Meta company, the home of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, was fascinating and breathtaking," he shared.
Gachagua's tour of Silicon Valley was not just for show; it also had a clear vision for the future. He hinted at a future where Kenya's tech-savvy youth could play a major role in his administration. "I must say I have a pretty good idea where to look for skills mix and our Kenyan GenZs who are brilliant and tech-savvy when recruiting personnel to help us back home in the 6th Administration come 2027," he stated. This comment suggests a strategic alignment of his political ambitions with the country's technological potential, positioning himself as a leader who understands the importance of a tech-driven future.
