Professor Nana Abah Appiah Amfo Inspiring a New Era in Human Capital Development

February 7, 2025
During an address at the Africa Prosperity Dialogue in Accra, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, demanded an increase of attention on human capital investment across the continent. She declared that “the human capital in Africa is the best resource it has,” putting emphasis on prioritizing this investment to attain the expected development for Africa.
Professor Amfo's remarks came during a panel session on January 31, 2025. She gave prominence to the University of Ghana's long-standing commitment to human capital development which has spun over 70 years. She proudly noted the advancements made in educational technology, stating, “Today I am pleased to see that all our major lecture halls are fully digitized, benefiting both lecturers and students.” She explained that the digital transformation has revolutionized the learning experience and further fostered an environment where lectures are both accessible and more interactive. This improves the students' engagement.
Professor Amfo's appeal stresses the truth that Africa needs to realize its full potential and it must harness and develop its valuable resource which is its people. Not just in school but worldwide. Such investments promote collaboration among employees and encourage them to identify areas for improvement that directly impact their work environment. It also facilitates a more fluid exchange of ideas and transformations.
