Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, following controversial remarks made by the latter during a recent tour of the United States. Gachagua, addressing the Mt Kenya diaspora community, called on them to halt remitting money back to Kenya — a move he implied would serve as a form of economic protest until his political faction returns to power. The statement has triggered sharp reactions from leaders across the political spectrum, with Oscar Sudi branding the comments as divisive, reckless, and economically harmful.
Posting a video statement on Sunday, July 20, 2025, through his social media channels, Sudi did not hold back. He accused Gachagua of engaging in unpatriotic behavior and attempting to incite economic sabotage for political gain. “Such statements only serve to divide the country and destabilize our economy,” Sudi asserted.
Going further, the outspoken MP questioned the mental state and leadership capacity of the former deputy president. In a fiery rebuke, Sudi said, “Wamunyoro’s verbal diarrhoea reveals a mind ravaged by mental turmoil, his mental state clearly unstable. Your time’s up, Mr Tribal Chief!” His remarks reflect a growing rift between Gachagua’s faction and a section of Kenya Kwanza loyalists increasingly frustrated by what they describe as tribal-driven political rhetoric.

Sudi also sought to reassure the Mt Kenya region of its central place in the current administration. Dismissing Gachagua’s insinuations of marginalization, he stated that the community continues to play a key role in national development and should not be swayed by emotional appeals rooted in tribal identity. “Mt Kenya is part of this government,” Sudi emphasized, “and must remain engaged in the national discourse. Isolation will only hurt the region’s economic future.”
The controversy stems from remarks made by Gachagua in which he defended the Mt Kenya community's dominance in Kenya’s economic structure. He blamed the current administration, led by President William Ruto, for what he described as a “war on the mountain,” claiming it had triggered an economic slowdown.
“Since William Ruto declared war on the mountain, the economy is almost collapsing,” Gachagua claimed, citing reduced investment, falling tax revenues, and disillusionment among business owners. He further emphasized the community's industrious nature, noting their entrepreneurial spirit and expansive presence across Kenya and abroad. “We are very aggressive, very enterprising, and very outgoing,” Gachagua said. “That’s why we are in every town in Kenya — and that is why you are successful here [in the diaspora].”
