Dangote Industries has unveiled the latest Peugeot 3008 GT model, and this is set to boost Nigeria's rising automobile sector. It signals a bold step towards local vehicle production and self-sufficiency in the automotive market. The new assembly of this award-winning SUV marks another milestone since the union between Dangote Industries and Kaduna State Government back in 2016.
The strategic partnership saw Dangote Industries acquiring a majority stake in Peugeot Automobile and then in 2022 the newly minted Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN) officially began operations at its state-of-the-art Greenfield Ultima Assembly Plant in Kaduna. This facility possesses an impressive daily production capacity of 120 vehicles, a figure poised to impact the local market of Nigeria.
The Peugeot 3008 model made its debut on the African continent in 2022 with its first assembly occurring in Ghana. The newly Nigerian launched Peugeot 3008 GT model is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine. This machine's story has since captured the attention of automotive enthusiasts and potential buyers alike. Its assembly in Nigeria represents a commitment from Dangote to foster local production and it's an opportunity for job creation plus economic growth within the region.
DPAN has not limited its ambition to just the 3008. The company first stirred up in Nigeria's automotive industry by re-launching the Peugeot brand with the assembly of the Peugeot 301. Since then, its lineup has impressively expanded to include the Land trek pickup, the 5008, and the latest 508 models. This displays a diverse range of vehicles tailored to meet local demand.
Through this production, Dangote Industries is set to upgrade the economic diversification in Nigeria and improve local manufacturing. As the automotive market becomes more competitive, the takeoff of DPAN should breathe new life into the production sector for Nigerian consumers.
