Ndindi Nyoro Ousted from Influential Budget Committee in Significant UDA Shift

Ndindi Nyoro, once a formidable figure within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, has been removed from the powerful House Budget and Appropriations Committee and reassigned. This notable shift in his political fortunes comes amidst suggestions of his neutral stance during a key impeachment vote and recent public criticisms of government policies, signaling significant internal dynamics within the ruling party.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been officially dropped from the highly influential House Budget and Appropriations Committee. He has since been reassigned to the Committee on Migration. This change marks a significant turning point for Nyoro, who had previously chaired the Budget Committee for more than two years, having been recognized as a "once-powerful figure within the ruling party and a vocal ally of President William Ruto." His former position will now be taken by Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo, following an earlier instance where Nyoro was also ousted from the chairmanship of the same committee, a role that went to Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi.
Sources within Parliament suggest that this latest reshuffle is not without specific implications. It is believed that Nyoro’s neutral stance during the controversial 2024 impeachment vote of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may have contributed to his sidelining. Unlike the majority of his party colleagues, Nyoro conspicuously "did not cast a vote during the proceedings," an action that was reportedly "viewed by some within the party as disloyalty." Furthermore, in more recent times, Nyoro has also been "openly critical of several government policies," potentially adding to the reasons for his political re-evaluation by the party leadership.
The Budget and Appropriations Committee is considered "one of the most powerful in Parliament," primarily due to its pivotal role in controlling "key decisions on national expenditure and resource allocation." Under established parliamentary standing orders, this committee is traditionally chaired by a member of the majority party and comprises no more than 50 Members of Parliament.
