Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has officially announced his resignation from his position as Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto. Taking to social media, Kuria confirmed his exit following a recent meeting with the Head of State, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the government. While remaining tight-lipped about his immediate next steps, Kuria indicated a desire to pursue "personal interests."
"This evening I have met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government," Kuria stated in his public announcement. His departure marks the end of a notable and at times controversial period within the current administration, during which he held various key portfolios.
Kuria's tenure in government has been characterized by his assertive style and his close association with President Ruto's economic vision. In his resignation statement, he meticulously outlined his service: "I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months and Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months." This timeline underscores a dynamic period of shifting roles and responsibilities within the government's economic machinery.

A particular point of pride for Kuria, as articulated in his statement, is his deep involvement in the foundational economic blueprint of the current administration. "As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform. Long Live Kenya." This declaration re-emphasizes his critical role in shaping the economic platform that propelled President Ruto to power in 2022. The "Bottom-Up" agenda, a cornerstone of Ruto's campaign, promised to uplift ordinary Kenyans through grassroots economic empowerment, and Kuria positions himself as a key architect of this vision.
Kuria's journey within the Ruto administration has not been without its challenges. Following his initial stint as a Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, he transitioned to the role of CS for Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management. His eventual appointment as a Senior Advisor to Ruto's Council of Economic Advisors came after he lost his Cabinet seat. This reshuffle, it is widely known, followed the widespread Gen-Z-led protests in 2024 that reportedly led to President Ruto making significant changes to his ministerial lineup, including the controversial dismissal of all his ministers. Kuria's move to an advisory role at that time was seen as a way for him to continue contributing to the economic agenda, albeit from a different vantage point.
