Liverpool capped off a remarkable 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Anfield, a game that served as both a final bow and a grand celebration. Already confirmed as league champions, Liverpool entered the match under no pressure, but the atmosphere was electric as fans came out in full force to witness the trophy presentation — the first at Anfield in front of supporters since 1990.
The match began with an early setback. In the 9th minute, Crystal Palace’s Ismaïla Sarr pounced on a defensive lapse to fire past Alisson, momentarily quieting the jubilant Anfield crowd. Palace, playing with nothing to lose, showed confidence and pace on the counterattack. Liverpool, however, responded with waves of possession and attacking intent. Though they dominated much of the match, frustration grew as opportunities came and went without reward.
One of the emotional highlights of the evening came at halftime, when Trent Alexander-Arnold entered the game for his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt. A local hero and academy graduate, his 354th appearance was met with thunderous applause, chants, and tears from the stands. It was a fitting farewell for a player who had become symbolic of the club's modern renaissance.
As the game wore on, Liverpool pressed harder. In the 84th minute, Mohamed Salah delivered once again, netting an equalizer with a spectacular strike. It was his 29th league goal of the season and capped an incredible campaign, where he recorded 47 goal involvements — equaling the all-time record for a 42-game season. The goal brought Anfield to life and added the final piece to an already celebratory occasion.
Tensions briefly flared when Ryan Gravenberch was shown a straight red card late in the game, but the dismissal had no bearing on the title or the mood. When the final whistle blew, the real celebration began. Leading the moment was captain Virgil van Dijk, who etched his name in history by becoming the first Dutch captain to lift the Premier League trophy. His leadership throughout the season had been instrumental, and the sight of him raising the silverware was a powerful image of triumph and legacy. This was not just a championship win; it was a moment of redemption and reward for years of hard work.
Anfield was draped in red as players paraded the trophy around the pitch. Former manager Jürgen Klopp was seen smiling in the stands, witnessing the continuation of a legacy he helped build. The roar from the crowd, the sparkle of the silverware, and the pride on the players' faces marked the perfect end to a historic season. Liverpool were champions of England again — and this time, they lifted the trophy in front of their people.
Several key figures were present for this historic moment. Jürgen Klopp, the former manager who laid the foundation for Liverpool’s recent success, was seen in the stands, smiling and soaking in the moment alongside club staff. Club owner John W. Henry and representatives of Fenway Sports Group were also in attendance, standing in solidarity with the team during the post-match ceremony. Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan, along with former club legends like Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush, were spotted pitch-side, joining in the celebrations.
Also present were departing players and staff who played vital roles throughout the season. The presence of these figures — past and present — created a powerful sense of continuity and tradition, reminding fans that Liverpool’s greatness is not just measured in trophies but in the people who wear and support the badge.
Following Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield, which marked the culmination of their triumphant 2024/25 Premier League season, captain Virgil van Dijk addressed the jubilant home crowd.
In his speech, Van Dijk expressed heartfelt gratitude to the fans, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout the season. He emphasized the collective effort that led to the club's success and highlighted the significance of celebrating this achievement together. He remarked, "Your passion, your commitment and your dedication, it never ceases to amaze me. You are the best supporters in the world, and I want you to know that you play a part in all of our successes."
Van Dijk also reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion, noting the special atmosphere of celebrating the title in front of a packed Anfield. He encouraged everyone to fully embrace the moment, stating, "So let’s do what we need to do, and celebrate properly. Together."
In his debut season, Arne Slot guided Liverpool to their 20th league title, equaling Manchester United's record. After the match, Slot expressed immense pride in his team's performance and the club's historic achievement. He acknowledged the special atmosphere at Anfield, stating, "It’s always special to win something, but at certain clubs maybe a little bit more. I don’t think you expect anything like this. If you look at the Premier League in the last few seasons, it was always a race to the end. To be part of it was already nice, let alone to win it."
Slot also addressed the emotional farewell of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made his final appearance for Liverpool before an anticipated move to Real Madrid. He remarked, "Trent deserved that special send-off. Very happy for him!"
Mohamed Salah had an extraordinary season, earning multiple accolades:
Premier League Player of the Season: Salah was named the EA SPORTS Player of the Season for 2024/25, becoming only the fifth player in Premier League history to win the award multiple times, having first secured it in 2017/18.
Golden Boot Winner: With 29 goals, Salah clinched the Premier League Golden Boot for the fourth time, equaling Thierry Henry's record for the most Golden Boots in league history.
Playmaker of the Season: He also led the league with 18 assists, earning the Playmaker of the Season award for the second time in his career.
Ryan Gravenberch was named young player of the season
The celebrations in Liverpool following the Premier League victory were nothing short of spectacular. Fans flooded the streets, filling the iconic streets around Anfield with joyous chants, cheers, and waves of red flags. The city united in a festive atmosphere, honoring the hard work and dedication of the players, coaching staff, and everyone involved in the club’s success. Public events, including a grand parade through Liverpool city center, saw thousands of supporters come together to celebrate the historic 20th league title. The sense of pride and community was palpable, as Liverpool basked in the glow of their long-awaited triumph, creating memories that will be cherished by fans for generations to come.
