Governor Guyo Accuses Senator Dullo of Politicizing Tragedy For Gains

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has fiercely condemned Senator Fatuma Dullo, accusing her of exploiting recent tragedies for political gain and undermining public officials. As tensions rise in the county, Guyo dismisses claims of politically linked insecurity, urging leaders to prioritize service over divisive rhetoric and electoral battles.

In a significant and outspoken address during an official visit to Elsa Ntirim in Burat Ward, Governor Guyo came out strongly against Senator Dullo, accusing her of dangerously politicizing recent incidents of insecurity and, in doing so, undermining the very public officials striving to maintain peace and order.
Governor Guyo unequivocally dismissed claims made by the Senator in Parliament regarding the safety of Isiolo residents. He maintained that recent violent cases that have shaken the community – including the tragic death of a woman and her four children in a house fire in Bulapesa, as well as the passing of a local blogger – were not politically motivated. Instead, preliminary investigations, according to the Governor, point to personal and accidental circumstances. The devastating house fire, for instance, has been attributed to a domestic dispute, while the blogger is reported to have succumbed to injuries sustained after being hit by a truck.
The Governor's indignation was palpable as he accused unnamed political figures of cynically using such deeply unfortunate incidents to incite public emotion and stir unrest, all for personal political mileage. He issued a grave warning that such actions pose a direct threat to the fragile peace that leaders are working tirelessly to secure in the region. "I would also like to talk about two things that happened recently in Bulapesa, where a mother and her children were burned — that is a very unfortunate incident. But we would like to tell politicians to stop politicizing everything,” Guyo asserted.

He elaborated further, emphasizing the distinction between genuine tragedy and political manipulation: “According to the preliminary investigation, it appears the matter was related to a love affair, a domestic issue… So if you say such a domestic issue is political, is that really fair? I would like to urge our leaders to work together with government officials to ensure our people receive proper services." This plea for collaboration over confrontation highlights a recurring challenge in devolved governance, where political rivalries often overshadow the collective goal of public service.
Governor Guyo also extended his caution to leaders who might leverage parliamentary platforms to attack dedicated civil servants, such as the County Commissioner. He pointed out the unfairness of such attacks, given that these officials do not have the immediate opportunity to publicly defend themselves or respond to allegations, creating an uneven playing field that can erode public trust in institutions.
This latest political skirmish unfolds against a backdrop of recent internal challenges for Governor Guyo, who narrowly survived an impeachment attempt. The motion, initiated by Members of the County Assembly, was ultimately quashed by the Senate due to technical irregularities in the process. Guyo seized this occasion to send a clear message to his political rivals, reminding them that legitimate leadership is earned through the democratic process of the ballot box, not through procedural shortcuts or politically motivated machinations.
Governor Guyo's visit to Elsa Ntirim also included a practical focus on development. During his tour, he inspected two recently completed water projects under the FLOCCA climate action program. These vital initiatives aim to improve agricultural productivity and build resilience among communities frequently affected by climate change, demonstrating the tangible impact of governance when leaders focus on developmental objectives.
