Digital content creator and entrepreneur Eve Mungai recently opened up about her past relationship with her ex-boyfriend, videographer Director Trevor, revealing that their decision to cohabit was driven more by necessity than love. The two had been together for nearly four years, and Eve explained that their living situation was primarily shaped by her circumstances at the time, especially in the early stages of her career.

In an interview with Commentator 254, the 24-year-old YouTuber shared how youthful inexperience led her to make decisions based more on survival than romance. "Especially young people, we end up in marriages or relationships because of situations," Eve reflected. "I ended up in a come-we-stay marriage because I didn't want to stay in my parents' house, and I didn't have anywhere else to go."
Eve and Trevor first met in late 2019, and when the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, she had just started gaining popularity online. Realizing an opportunity to further her career, Eve chose to move in with Trevor, who had been instrumental in helping her build her online presence. Reflecting on that time, Eve admitted that, looking back, there was no true love between them. "We hadn't interacted much... personally, and I don't know how people will, but I have realized it recently. I don't think... I don't even think there was love. Not just me, but the two of us. I feel like situations brought us together," she said.
She continued by acknowledging how the circumstances surrounding their living arrangement were rooted in practicality rather than affection. "It was because I didn't have anywhere else to go, so I ran to him. Then I started feeling this person has taught me everything I know and whatnot, so I stayed." During this time, Trevor played a pivotal role in introducing Eve to the world of online content creation, and together, they shifted their focus to making money as a young couple.
However, in hindsight, Eve came to realize that their relationship was more about survival and confusion than it was about genuine connection. "To be very honest, and with no offense, I hope people understand me. You know, we didn't even get a chance to get to know each other and focus on ourselves," she said, reflecting on how the lack of a solid foundation ultimately impacted their relationship.
Eve has since moved on from the relationship and revealed that she is now in a new relationship that holds more purpose and the potential for a future together. During a conversation with content creators Nebz and Nyathira, she shared that her current boyfriend might soon pay her dowry, which is something she humorously compared to her previous relationship. "Hapa penye niko naona nitapelekewa. Lakini hapo pengine I think ni mimi ndio ningekuwa nimejitolea dowry yangu," Eve joked about her past relationship dynamics.
Eve also hinted that her current relationship has been progressing for almost a year, suggesting she had already moved on before publicly announcing her breakup with Trevor. "I am always in a relationship. By the time namalizana na huku najuanga who's next. But also, you guys got to know about everything very late. Mambo ya social media achana nayo," she remarked, indicating her preference for privacy over social media drama.
Following her separation from Trevor, Eve launched her own YouTube channel in March of this year. Trevor took control of their former joint channel and rebranded it as Kenya Online Media.
