Kenyan comedian Elsa Majimbo, now residing in the United States, finds herself in the eye of a social media turmoil. While her star continues to shine internationally, her relationship with her fellow Kenyans has become decidedly fraught. Recently, a chorus of discontent emerged on X (formerly Twitter) as Kenyans seemingly disowned the comedian, suggesting she be donated to South Africa.
Majimbo, known for her signature wit and offbeat humor, has not held back her affection for South Africa. In a heartfelt tweet, she expressed her unwavering love for the nation and its people, saying, "Damn, I love South Africa. Like ride-or-die kind of love." Her sentiments did not go unnoticed, particularly as she made a bold move by adding the South African flag to her X bio. This is a gesture that many took as a public declaration of her allegiance.
In late November 2022, Majimbo was entangled in a feud with Kenyan citizens after a series of viral videos led many to believe she had dissed her home country. The uproar came to a climax when the comedian offered a reward of $1000 for anyone who could provide evidence of her supposedly derogatory remarks about Kenya. The episode only fueled the fire of discontent. This lead many to feel alienated by her apparent preference for her adopted homeland.
January 2025 brought further controversy as Majimbo declared that trending in Kenya was not representative of her brand. This statement did not sit well with many, particularly as she linked herself to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein saga, insinuating that rumors of her name being associated with Epstein's notorious list were unfounded. The recent unsealing of court documents naming high-profile personalities, including Michael Jackson, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump. This only intensified the conversation around her provocative claims.
Elsa Majimbo has a distinctive blend of humor which is often punctuated by her love for potato chips and vintage sunglasses, she captured the hearts of audiences during the pandemic. Yet, as she navigates the choppy waters of fame, her view on her identity and state of belonging have sparked a dialogue both online and offline.
