Ruto Appoints Charles Nyachae After Missing IEBC Chairperson Position

President William Ruto has announced the reappointment of Mr. Charles Nyachae as the Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government (KSG). Effective immediately, this new three-year term, formalized through a Gazette notice published on Friday, July 11th, underscores a clear vote of confidence in Nyachae’s leadership and his vision for Kenya's public sector capacity building.
The Kenya School of Government stands as a pivotal institution, mandated by the KSG Act to cultivate excellence within the public service. Its core mission revolves around developing crucial managerial and leadership competencies, ensuring that Kenya’s public service operates with unparalleled quality and efficiency. In an era demanding robust governance and adaptable leadership, the role of KSG has never been more critical.
Mr. Nyachae brings to this renewed term a rich tapestry of experience, marked by distinguished service across various high-stakes public roles. He is widely recognized for his tenure as a former Judge of the East African Court of Justice, a role that honed his understanding of regional legal frameworks and governance. Perhaps even more prominently, he chaired the Constitution Implementation Commission (CIC), a pivotal body tasked with overseeing the rollout of Kenya's transformative 2010 Constitution. His deep involvement in shaping the nation's constitutional reforms speaks volumes about his expertise in navigating complex legal and administrative landscapes.
This reappointment follows his initial successful tenure as KSG chair, which began on January 24, 2024, and concluded just recently on July 12, 2025. His continuity at the helm is crucial for maintaining momentum in KSG's strategic objectives and ensuring stability in its long-term development programs.
Notably, Mr. Nyachae has been a figure of public interest in recent months, having been among the shortlisted candidates for the highly coveted position of Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Although the role was ultimately filled by Erastus Ethekon, Nyachae’s consideration for such a critical national office further attests to his respected standing and perceived competence within the public sphere.
