Brian's life took a dramatic turn during his university years at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) when a tragic accident left him paralyzed from the armpits down. The accident, which claimed the lives of three of his friends, forced Brian to confront his own mortality and navigate a new reality.
Despite the immense challenges he faced, Brian chose to embrace his disability as a part of his identity. "It was supposed to be an easy thirty-minute commute from town to home if only that trailer would have stuck to its lane," he reflects, acknowledging the randomness of life. "Disability" is not a term he shies away from; instead, he wears it as a badge of honor. "It gives me a sense that I belong to a community of really strong people," he shares.

He candidly unpacks the societal stigma surrounding disabilities, emphasizing that there are dimensions to living with a disability that go beyond just the physical. "We are not always depressed, we are not always bitter and neither are we beggars," he asserts.
