The 27th April, 2025 TCS London Marathon is set to be a thrilling spectacle, boasting a star-studded field that includes some of the greatest distance runners in history. Among the elite athletes vying for glory are Kenyan duo Peres Jepchirchir and Alexander Mutiso Munyao, who will be defending their hard-earned titles.
Jepchirchir and Munyao will carry the Kenyan flag high as they aim to repeat their 2024 triumphs. The women's race promises to be a fierce battle, with world record holder Ruth Chepngetich, two-time Berlin Marathon champion Tigist Assefa, and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan all in contention. This formidable lineup features the three fastest women in history, guaranteeing a thrilling showdown.
The men's race is equally competitive, with Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest marathoner of all time, making his return to London after a brief absence. Kipchoge, along with world half marathon champion Sabastian Sawe and Berlin Marathon champion Milkesa Mengesha, will face stiff competition from a talented field that includes Olympic champion Tamirat Tola and New York City Marathon champion Abdi Nageeye.
“This is quite simply the greatest elite field in the history of the London Marathon,” said Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events. “We are welcoming back all our defending champions and, excitingly, Ruth Chepngetich who produced one of the most outstanding performances of all time when she became the first woman to run inside 2:10 in Chicago last year.
“In Ruth, Sifan Hassan and Tigist Assefa we have the three fastest women of all time in the field in a thrilling showdown. All three have run inside 2:14 and no marathon in history has ever had a faster line-up. This year, our historic 45th edition, is stronger than ever before.”
The 2025 London Marathon is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, showcasing the pinnacle of distance running. With Kenyan champions Jepchirchir and Munyao leading the charge, the nation will be eagerly awaiting their performance on the iconic London course.
