Renowned Kenyan filmmaker, podcaster and content creator Abel Mutua has recently expressed his frustration with the growing trend of Kenyans attending events without purchasing tickets, blaming it partly on the lack of a suitable indoor venue.
In a series of social media posts, Mutua questioned how Kenya, a regional powerhouse, lacks a dedicated indoor arena capable of accommodating at least 20,000 people. He pointed to Kigali, Rwanda, as an example, highlighting the ease of event organization with their state-of-the-art arena.
Mutua argued that while Kenya has witnessed a boom in mall construction, the country sorely needs a modern indoor arena. Such a facility would offer numerous advantages, including:
Improved Event Organization: An indoor arena would provide a controlled environment, making events more secure, weatherproof, and easier to manage.
Reduced Headaches: The current reliance on outdoor venues often leads to logistical challenges, security concerns, and disruptions due to unpredictable weather. An indoor arena would mitigate these issues.
Curbing Unpaid Entry: Mutua believes that a dedicated indoor venue with controlled entry points would help curb the issue of people attending events without paying, a practice that has become increasingly prevalent.
The filmmaker concluded his posts by asking his followers how many would support the construction of such an arena and at what estimated cost. This initiative aims to gauge public interest and potentially mobilize support for this much-needed infrastructure.
