One of the most notable couples in the 2000s in the world of R&B was Usher's and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC who shared a passionate yet complicated romance that continues to captivate fans today. The duo dated for three years from 2001 until their breakup in 2004, leaving fans wondering what could have been. The tension surrounding their split has even been the subject of speculation, with Usher’s acclaimed album "Confessions" leading many to think that its themes revolved around his relationship with Chilli.
The singer later reflected on the breakup, attributing it to a fundamental difference in their relationship expectations. “I was a young man, and she had very specific rules that didn't work for me,” Usher admitted. Chilli, on the other hand, seemed to steer away from a future filled with potential heartache, fearing that their paths might lead to divorce. Despite the heartbreak of their split, both artists ensured their bond remained intact. They maintained friendship and mutual respect, only for Chilli to cut off contact in 2019 to prioritize her personal growth.
Fast forward to today: the lives of these artists has changed dramatically. Usher is happily married to Jenn Goicoechea, with whom he shares two children. Meanwhile, Chilli has found love again, dating actor Matthew Lawrence and has since forged a connection that also integrates her son, Tron, from a previous relationship. In an interview a while back, Usher, reflected on the hurt from their past, stating, "I'm not hurt over that at all," demonstrating that time can heal wounds, leading to a place of friendship.
