In a candid and unapologetic statement, Kenyan artist Toxic Lyrikali has addressed recent accusations of arrogance, clarifying his position on professional rivalries within the music industry. His commentary comes after "veteran gengetone artist Parroty" publicly asked him to "reduce his arrogance towards other music artists," setting the stage for a fiery response.
Toxic Lyrikali was quick to assure his fanbase that his attitude is not directed at them, saying he’ll "never show them pride or arrogance." He clarified that his issue is strictly with "fellow artists who ignored him during his struggles but now want to ride his wave." In a direct message, he told his peers "to sing, and leave him alone because the fans haven't disturbed him on his ride to fame." He further explained that artists "weren't with him when he was down, so now that he's up, they want to chip in in his music lifestyle."
The artist’s defiance was further amplified through his music. Taking to his Instagram stories, he shared a line from his "trending new music, 'Backbencher'." The lyrics read: "Na wa pita unaeza dhani wakua ni motion..Wekeza mbona unaeka emotions...Ningekua Adi Ticha mboka Doba ndio motto..Anyway Kayole pia ni Potmore." This poignant verse served as a direct and lyrical message to his critics, arguing for the importance of investing in one's craft over getting caught up in the emotional rivalries of others.
